Sugar Industry Filters

As global demand for sugar and cane ethanol increases, so does the number of sugar mills and refineries. Milling procedure involves several stages of washing, and shredded cane is often mixed with water repeatedly before a final product is achieved. As the numerous aspects of milling require high quality water, Forsta industrial water filtration systems directly meet the needs of this industrial process.

Sugar mills require highly efficient systems not only to reclaim sugar products, but also to recycle process water. Water used to wash sugar cane can be filtered and recycled using Forsta industrial self cleaning water filters, saving time, money and valuable resources. Industrial filters can even be used to process sugar-water solutions of low Degrees Brix, or high temperature.

Once water has passed through the milling process, large volumes of effluent can also be recycled through an industrial water filtration system for lower grade applications. The reduction in waste water volume reduces environmental impact, and increases system efficiency.

Self-cleaning water filters used in the milling process function best in a position located nearest to the discharge of the main pump.

Usual water quality specifications for sugar mills and refineries designate a level of filtration from 10μ-500μ. Due to the stapling effect of fibers on wire mesh, water sources with raw cane fibers usually require wedge wire screen elements.

Typical Applications:

  • Cooling Tower: Side Stream or Full Flow
  • Evaporator Protection
  • Thin Juice Filtration
  • Sugar Rinse Water
  • Process Water
