Seawater is water from a sea or ocean. On average, seawater in the world’s oceans has a salinity of approximately 3.5%, or 35 parts per thousand. This means that for every 1 litre (1000 mL) of seawater there are 35 grams of salts (mostly, but not entirely, sodium chloride) dissolved in it. Although a vast majority of seawater is found in oceans with salinity around 3.5%, seawater is not uniformly saline throughout the world. Regardless of the salinity/chloride content of seawater, Forsta has offers high quality, corrosion-resistant solutions for sweater filtration.

Desalination describes any process that removes excess salt and other minerals from water. Often the goal of desalination is to make fresh water available for human consumption or irrigation. Desalination plants utilize automatic self-cleaning water filtration systems in such applications as cartridge pre-filtration, ultra-filtration (UF)/reverse osmosis (RO) pre-filtration, process water filtration, and cooling water filtration. Forsta self-cleaning sea water filters extend the life and improve the performance of membrane systems by removing particles such as sand, silt, and other organic material and suspended solids.

Power plants, and other industrial facilities may use sea water for cooling purposes. Raw sea water must also be filtered prior to use for cooling, to prevent excess solids from harming/clogging industrial equipment.
